Aquawest recently completed a major irrigation upgrade, converting an open channel water delivery system into a fully enclosed HDPE polythene pipeline network, connecting 15 existing irrigation bores.
This closed system is projected to deliver 15–20% water savings by minimising transmission losses, with pumping volumes reduced from 6,000ML to 4,800ML per year — a savings of 1,200 megalitres of allocated water.
Key features of the project include:
Three independent pipeline systems totalling 14,000 metres of PE100 HDPE polythene pipe (160mm–400mm diameter)
Pipes supplied in 20m lengths, butt-welded on site
Average installation depth: 1,600mm
Pipe flexibility suited to black soil ground movement, ensuring durability across changing moisture conditions
Each bore is fitted with a 150mm Aquamonics pattern-approved water meter for remote monitoring, ensuring compliance and water-use transparency.
With daily pumping rates reaching 30ML/day over 200 days/year, the system is also expected to cut fuel consumption by 20%, delivering the same volume with greater energy efficiency.
This project highlights Aquawest’s ability to deliver future-proof irrigation infrastructure, optimising both resource use and cost efficiency for large-scale agricultural operations.
